Starting Salary (from 1/4/2019): 31,371 pa progressing to 33,799 pa
dependent on skills and experience
37 hours per week

About you:

  • A full current driving licence is essential
  • Demonstrable record in management and maintenance of public rights of way
  • Ability to communicate, negotiate and influence
  • Ability to provide leadership to a small team of peers

We work to provide a healthy, high quality environment for residents of and visitors to Hertfordshire.  Through partnership working with other agencies, user groups and individuals we engage the public in our work at every stage. 


Our Access team protect, maintain, improve and promote use of the 3000km network of Public Rights of Way across the county.  Through this activity we provide opportunities for informal recreation and commuting, linking towns and villages to each other and the countryside.  


Responsibilities include:

  • Technical lead for Rights of Way network management and improvement
  • Day-to-day oversight of the Access Team, advice on challenging cases, regular supervision and contribution to performance and development reviews
  • Personal responsibility for a geographical area of the network
  • Consulting stakeholders and negotiating with landowners and residents
  • Working collaboratively with a broad range of users and partners
  • Specification, procurement and management of contracts
  • Engaging volunteers in maintenance and improvement activities
  • Responding to planning applications to secure appropriate protection or improvement of routes and creation of new routes to increase connectivity
