Exciting opportunity to deliver ecological mitigation protects and to gain a broad range of experience within an ecological consultancy. Practical tasks may include sensitive vegetation clearance; habitat creation and enhancement for protected species and habitats; installing wildlife fencing; planting native trees, shrubs and plants; installing new artificial badger setts, otter holts, bird and bat boxes etc; management and maintenance of tools and equipment. The role may also offer the opportunity to assist with some protected species surveys for suitable candidates. 

 

Qualifications / certificates:

 

Essential

  • NPTC Chainsaw Certificate Unit 31
  • NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Brush cutting Operations (or willingness to acquire).
  • First Aid at Work certificate
  • Driving licence

 

Desirable

  • A degree / equivalent in ecology or related subject
  • CSCS card

 

Experience and abilities:

 

Essential:

  • Professional conduct with strong commitment to marrying an excellent client focused service while attaining the best possible outcome for wildlife and biodiversity.  
  • A high degree of demonstrable practical aptitude.
  • Flexible positive attitude, willing to deliver and help with a broad range of tasks.
  • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in a range of weather conditions.
  • Effective project planning: plan ecological contracting work to fit in with the needs of ecological consultants and third party contractors. This would include timely purchase / management / maintenance of tools and equipment and delivering contracting work on site to meet project deadlines, seasonal constraints and project budgets.  
  • To find field sites, decipher site plans and ecological mitigation design drawings in the field.
  • Ability to work safely and adhere to construction site safety rules and risk assessments.
  • Able to work alone, as part of a team or alongside third party contractors, in some cases providing advice and guidance.
  • Computer literate, able to use Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Word etc.
  • Driving licence and own transport, prepared to transport tools and car share if required.

 

Desirable:

  • Protected species survey / mitigation experience.
  • Experience of QGIS
