Volunteer Trainee Reserves Officer – placement based in Leicester with travel across the region to work on the Trust’s 33 reserves, including woodland, meadow, wetland and heath. 19 reserves are designated as SSSI and 2 as National Nature Reserves.

 

We have an exciting opportunity for you to work with the Reserves Officer to gain experience and skills in leading a large volunteer work group and carrying out practical habitat management tasks across the region, where you will be working alongside an experienced team of staff and volunteers. 

 

The placement will equip you with a broad range of skills and experience in practical habitat management, group leadership, the use of a variety of power and hand tools and best practice in conservation management.

 

Training: first aid at work, herbicide and chainsaw certification, and lots of in-house training.

Full driving licence and 1 year’s driving experience essential.

 

Applicants will need great communication and organisational skills, good computing skills, a ready sense of humour, enthusiasm and the ability to use initiative and motivate others. Previous experience is desirable but not essential.

 

This is a 6-12 month placement, 4-5 days per week, and although unsalaried we provide £300/month towards living costs, a training allowance and appropriate PPE
