Do you have tractor operating experience?

Do you love working in Englandís woodland?

Read on as this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

The Forestry Commission serves a hugely valuable purpose for the nation. Entrusted with nurturing a sustainable source of timber, we also manage and enhance woodland for recreation purposes and we endeavour to protect and expand forests, open heathland and woodland.

Youíll work across the South Downs and Chiddingfold Beat Teams completing a wide range of forest management and maintenance tasks to help meet Beat and District work commitments and operational targets.

Youíll be utilising your previous work experience and technical tractor operating skills in order to work in a range of environments. This will involve using a range of tractor mounted tools for ground preparation for planting, controlling scrub and weed growth and ride edge management whilst taking into account road and ride habitat value.

More about the Beats

The South Downs Beat comprises woods and forests across the Hampshire/West Sussex Border, mainly within the South Downs National Park. This includes 4,200Ha of mixed broadleaf and coniferous woodland, on a range of soil types and elevations, as well as a number of busy recreation sites.

The Chiddingfold Beat predominantly occurs across the Surrey Hills, with elements in East Hampshire and West Sussex. The beat covers 2,690Ha of mixed woodland and is subject to a range of habitat designations, including SSSI and ancient semi-natural woodland. The Chiddingfold beat encompasses Alice Holt Forest Park which is a prominent recreation venue for the South Forest District, attracting some 290,000 days visits per year.
