We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join Devon County Councilís well regarded Public Rights of Way Team. The County Council is responsible for over 5,000 kilometers of public rights of way and manages a large network of local and regional routes (such as the Tarka Trail and Exe Estuary Trail) and the South West Coast Path National Trail.

The definitive map and statement is the legal record of public rights of way. You will be part of an established team and your primary role will be to carry out the County Councilís statutory duties to ensure that the map and statement provide an accurate record of public rights of way in the county, by assessing and processing modification and public path orders.

You will undertake site visits and consult with the public and stakeholders. You will also prepare and present reports to the Committee, process orders and prepare and present cases at public inquiries and hearings. You will occasionally be required to attend public meetings outside of normal office hours.

You enjoy research and the interpretation of historical documents, have good evaluation skills and attention to detail. Good working and practical knowledge of the legal process relating to public rights of way is essential. Membership of the Institute of Public Rights of Way and Access Management would be an advantage.
