What it's like to work here

Part of the North Shropshire Portfolio, Attingham Park is the third most visited pay to enter National Trust property in England and Wales, welcoming an astonishing 472,000 visitors through its gates every year. Consisting of nearly 4,000 acres the highlights for our visitors include the Mansion, Parkland, Walled Garden, Pleasure Ground and Playfield.

The Walled Garden lay derelict for many years but we have worked hard to restore it back to its former glory and it is now truly the jewel in Attingham’s crown. The Walled Garden sits within the Pleasure Gardens, which is also undergoing a restoration project of its own; we are in the fourth year of a ten year project to return the Mile Walk back to the original designs of Thomas Leggett and Humphrey Repton who made their mark on Attingham’s landscape design during the Georgian period. The Pleasure Grounds and Parkland is very popular with our visitors, and we are always looking for new ways to increase their awareness of the outdoor conservation work we do along with the challenges we face.

What you'll be doing

As a hands-on Gardener, you’ll assist in making sure that our gardens are maintained to a high standard; we’re really keen to get the Pleasure Grounds up to the same standard as the Walled Garden and your work will play a vital part in making this happen. You’ll work across both the Pleasure Grounds and the Walled Garden in a wide range of horticulture tasks such as; glasshouse propagation, shrub pruning, flower and vegetable growing, tree felling and path building/maintenance. You’ll also take ownership of specific areas of the garden ensuring the highest standards are maintained and healthy plants are available for our visitors to enjoy.

You’ll also support our large team of garden volunteers and help them to make the most of their time here. You’ll be expected to interact with the public on a daily basis, answering the many questions, or help out with gardening workshops, tours and helping set up events when needed.
