Forestry Conservation Operative with the Heart of England Forest

 

The RFS is providing roles to help college leavers enter the professional forestry world. On top of a competitive first salary there is access to £2k of CPD funding and support towards RFS certification.
You must have a level 2 or level 3 award in forestry, arb or countryside management, finishing this year or last year.

 

Main purpose of the job:

 

This training role is ideal for a budding forester wishing to develop a wide range of practical forestry skills, experience and competencies for career progression, this is a unique role suited to someone with a keen interest in broadleaf woodlands and conservation. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to grow and shape Englandís largest new native broadleaf woodland, whilst gaining practical experience on the job.

 

Main responsibilities:

             

With the support of the forestry team, the range of tasks involved in the role include:

 

  • Tree planting
  • Forest establishment and maintenance work, including shelter maintenance, weeding, loss assessment, tree guard removal, etc.
  • Designing new walking routes and way-marking.
  • Biodiversity surveys.
  • Habitat creation, maintenance and monitoring.
  • Maintaining and improving public access within the forest, which includes inspections of access areas, reporting health and safety issues, and resolving problems under own initiative.
