Job Purpose:

 

Be part of a small work group and provide an emergency response service for the Natural Resources Wales on an operational site and ensure work is delivered in a safe and environmentally sensitive way.    

 

The Field Team:

 

  • Carries out essential engineering and maintenance works to deliver the Annual Asset Maintenance/Improvement Works programme of works on NRW’s Flood Defence Assets.
  • Works on the Welsh Government Woodland Estate (WGWE) as directed.
  • Delivers a programme of works to ensure the special features of the NNR’s we manage are maintained.
  • Provides emergency response to flood or environmental incidents as part of an operational standby rota.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Setting direction

 

Undertake work in compliance with Natural Resources Wales health and safety policies and procedures in order to minimise the risk to themselves and others.

 

  • Ensuring effective governance

 

Operate assets and equipment effectively to carry out maintenance or improvement works upon Flood Defence Assets, Special Features within our NNR’s or on the Welsh Government Woodland Estate.

Ensure work on site fully complies with Natural Resources Wales conservation and environmental policies and procedures to minimise the risk of environmental damage.

 

  • Delivering results

 

Provide effective delivery of an emergency response capability for floods and environmental incidents to minimise the impact of the incident as directed.

 

Plan and carry out allocated operational tasks to deliver the work in a timely manner and within budget.

 

  • Building Relationships

 

Communicate with landowners/occupiers and the public to ensure full awareness of the work to be undertaken. The job requires frequent contact with people outside the department to provide or obtain information. The ability to clearly express oneself is important.

 

The job requires courteous behaviour in face to face dealings with members of the public and other Natural Resources Wales employees.

Job Specific Criteria:

 

  1. It is essential that candidates have an understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 (CDM2007).
  2. The candidate will have obtained, working towards, or be willing to obtain an IOSH certificate.
  3. Construction Plant Competence Scheme or equivalent and competent in the use of heavy plant such as excavators and tractors plus the ability to use powered hand tools such as chainsaws with an understanding of hand and arm vibration.
  4. The ability to demonstrate political awareness when dealing with customers, stakeholders and communities would be desirable.
  5. Using effective spoken communication skills to help persuade internal or external partners to take action is essential.
