Job Description:


We have a unique opportunity for a Senior Tree Officer/Team Manager to lead a team of dedicated and experienced tree officers and in-house tree surgeons to protect, manage and maintain Southamptonís important tree stock.


You will be responsible for:


  • Managing an experienced team of Local Authority Tree Officers to provide an all-inclusive arboricultural service to Southampton City Council
  • Managing a dedicated in-house Tree Surgery Team, providing all the tree surgery works for  Southampton City Council as well as driving the commercial offer
  • Providing expert advice on proposed developments, tree preservation orders and health and safety tree surveys
  • Taking the lead in educating people about the type of trees in the city and promoting the benefits of the tree stock across the city.
  • Increasing revenue income through commercialisation of the service


To be successful in the role you will hold a relevant professional qualification to a minimum RFS Professional Diploma in Arboriculture or equivalent (NVQ Level 6 equivalent) or relevant experience to undertake the job and be able to demonstrate experience at a management level, achieving sustained improvements to team performance. You will require excellent communication skills and have a high level of IT literacy. You will also need to demonstrate your ability to write technical reports, briefings and deliver recommendations to a wide range of audiences.

The Southampton Tree Team is a one stop shop for all matters relating to trees in Southampton. We provide a comprehensive service from surveys to surgery and inspections to insurance claims. Our unique team set up means that we are able to manage our trees from planting through to felling all in house.
