Bowland Ecology is seeking to employ a self-motivated and enthusiastic ecologist to an Ecologist/Senior position within the company. The key remit will be to continue to build on the growth of the Company’s Scottish office currently based in New Lanark. We will potentially consider candidates who might be based in alternative locations within Scotland.


The company is a well-established ecological consultancy that strives to work flexibly to deliver wildlife benefits through a wide range of projects, meet client requirements and encourage staff development. The company seeks to provide a supportive environment to ensure that work life balance is maintained despite seasonal pressures.


The successful candidate will be expected to be able to work at a high level in terms of technical expertise and delivery of work to deadlines. The post will also involve business development and staff management. A comprehensive understanding of the UK regulatory system in respect of wildlife is essential.


All of our staff are expected to be hands on, particularly during the busy field season. In addition to the project management and regulatory skills required for the post, ability ‘in the field’ is also expected.


Qualifications, Skills & Experience Required:


  • Relevant degree level qualification
  • Membership of CIEEM or equivalent;
  • Technical expertise in ecology including habitat surveying and/or working with protected species or other specialist groups;
  • Project management and report writing;
  • Excellent communication, team working and time management skills; and
  • Minimum 3 years in practice experience.




  • Additional day leave per year of service, to a maximum of 30 days;
  • Flexible work from home/office options;
  • Company policy of finishing at 3pm on Friday throughout the year; and
  • Options to add LIEU to annual leave entitlement.


Job Type: Full-time


Salary is negotiable depending on skills and experience.
