We’re looking for an exceptional individual who can help lead our ranger team and supervise our boat operation on Brownsea Island.

What you'll be doing


You will be responsible for the day to day management and delivery of the National Trusts Brownsea Island boat services and when necessary deputising for the Lead Ranger in their duties, Performing your role as a manager of a small team, or as an independent Ranger. You will enable everyone to feel welcome and to have outstanding and inspirational experiences at our property. You will be part of a broader team of staff on the property delivering great service to visitors and you will manage volunteers. Working alongside our tenants and partners in the local community, you'll communicate with other organisations, protecting and enhancing the Trust's assets and reputation.

Who we're looking for


This job is about providing a service. To be fantastic in this role, you’ll need to: have the following;

  • Current MCA Boat Masters Licence (minimum tier 2).
  • Team management to include; planning, creating rotas, timetables and meeting all compliance requirements.
  • Significant practical experience in relevant land, conservation and access management, supported by appropriate qualifications to level 4 or equivalent level of vocational experience.
  • Significant practical boat maintenance experience, including care of marine diesel engines.
  • Experience of working with volunteers with good understanding of the different approaches needed to reward, recognise and motivate volunteers.
  • Good people and communication skills enabling strong relationships both internally and externally to be built and maintained.
