Summary

 

We're looking for someone with an enthusiasm for nature conservation who will provide support and technical consultation to the National Trustís properties, allowing them to achieve sustainable standards of conservation in line with the Trust's Land, Outdoor and Nature Programme and delivery of High Nature Status on our land. If you have excellent people skills, an ecological background and an ability to interpret data then we want to hear from you.

Weíre offering an exciting role where you can make a positive difference to some of the amazing nature conservation sites in the National Trustís care.

 

The East of England region of the National Trust reaches from The Ashridge Estate in Hertfordshire across to the woodlands of Blickling Estate near the Norfolk coast and from our in-hand organic farm on the Wimpole estate in Cambridgeshire to the salt marshes on the coast in Essex. Including some of some the most iconic landscapes in Britain, we care for some of the most incredible habitats and their associated species. Youíll play a key part in supporting our property teams to deliver our ambitious strategy to deliver more for nature.

 

This role will be based at the National Trust regional office in our wonderful Barn conversion at Westley Bottom, near Bury St Edmunds on edge of the Ickworth Estate.

 

What you'll be doing

 

Working alongside and under the guidance of our Wildlife Advisor, you'll be providing consultancy advice and support to properties in nature conservation, including habitat and species surveying and site management. You'll also be helping property staff and volunteers set up mechanisms to track change in habitats and identifying opportunities to help deliver high nature status on our land.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to encourage and train property staff, increasing their ability and passion to help drive nature conservation development more independently. Youíll be responsible for building a bank of external services and expertise, securing funding for their participation whilst also managing their involvement. You may also be managing small projects over short term horizons.

 

Who we're looking for

 

To excel in this role you'll need to have/be:

  • Knowledge of nature conservation (or equivalent knowledge) including understanding of external issues, legislation, policy, practice, instructions and guidance
  • The ability to undertake surveys and translate survey and monitoring data into nature management guidance
  • Consulting skills of listening, building trust and acting to deliver a high quality service and good inter-personal skills
  • Ability to build effective internal and external relationships with staff and volunteers, with strong coaching, training, mentoring & facilitation skills
  • Strong communication skills proving the ability to motivate and train individuals and to negotiate and influence external suppliers
  • Project management skills
