logo: Woodland TrustProject Development Manager – Ben Shieldaig Estate

Salary £30,000 - £40,000

About us

The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity.  We want to see a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife. The Trust aims to engage and inspire people about woods and trees to help us meet our vision of creating, restoring and protecting woodland. We own and care for over 1,000 woodland sites across the United Kingdom and support the creation and management of woodland on land outside the Trust’s own estate.

Our vision is that the Ben Shieldaig Estate will become a thriving and robust mosaic of native woodland and open habitats that improve the environment and create a healthier, more resilient home for wildlife and people. We will work with our neighbours and other partners to make a difference at a truly landscape scale. The project will inspire others and benefit our cause through increased profile and support for the Trust and our work.

The role

Whilst the Site Manager will lead on the land management work itself, as our Project Development Manager for the Ben Shieldaig Estate you will lead on realising this overall vision.  This will include developing and managing positive relationships with the wider community, neighbouring landowners and key stakeholders. You will be a strong advocate for our work, values and beliefs and ensure we leverage a range of opportunities to engage and benefit people, wildlife and the Trust’s work and to optimise supporter engagement.

You will be working with and line managing the Ben Shieldaig Estate Site Manager and working with colleagues across the organisation. In particular you will work closely with Trust colleagues involved in communications, demonstration and fundraising elements of the project and other work in the West Coast Treescape.

The candidate
You’ll have demonstrable experience of managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects and of working with communities, volunteers and wide range of stakeholders to achieve results. Budget management experience is essential.  Knowledge and experience of the principles of land management for environmental and social benefits is highly desirable but not essential for the right candidate.

You’ll need to be self- motivated, a results focussed individual with excellent communication skills, be commercially and self-aware and be able to work successfully both on your own and collaboratively.

A full driving licence is essential and you’ll need to be able to work from home and be within reasonable travelling distance of the Ben Shieldaig area.

What you can expect
There’s no other organisation like the Woodland Trust. Whatever you do here you will be supporting our work to protect and enhance woods and trees. In return we recognise and value our people. You'll have our full support, training and opportunities for professional development, along with a contributory pension, life assurance and good holiday entitlement.

Closing date – 17th Feb 2019
