Based at Yoredale, Bainbridge

Fixed term contract for 9 months

Part time – 21 hours a week

Band D - £22,462 - £28,786 per annum, pro rata

Are you passionate about wildlife? Do you have a broad understanding of the challenges of upland land management? Do you want to be part of a major new project addressing conservation concerns for one of our most important but vulnerable UK species, the curlew? Do you have experience working in partnership and developing and securing funding for major projects?

We are looking for a Funding Development Officer to fill a 9 month contract commencing early 2019 to be hosted by the Yorkshire Dales National Park on behalf of the Northern Upland Chain Local Nature Partnership (LNP).

The Northern Upland Chain LNP encompasses Northumberland National Park, North Pennines AONB, Yorkshire Dales National Park, Nidderdale AONB and the Forest of Bowland AONB. Together with other organisations such as Natural England, NFU, Moorland Association and RSPB, the LNP are committed to working across the entire area to improve and enhance the area for a range of species and habitats.

The much-loved curlew is a flagship species for our uplands. Its evocative ‘curlee-curlee’ call heralds the arrival of spring and reminds people of wild places. However, the curlew is one of the most pressing bird conservation priorities in the UK. The breeding population has nearly halved since the mid-1990s. In some places, there is a real possibility that they could disappear altogether in the next twenty years.

The LNP has responded to wader declines by making a commitment to developing a programme of work to try and ensure they have good chances of survival in our landscape.   One area of work is all about ensuring the population of curlew remains robust and conditions are good enough to secure their long term survival.  There is a close connection between this work and the LNP’s promotion of ‘High Nature Value’ farming in the uplands.
