Our Company: ERAP (Consultant Ecologists) Ltd is an established and well-respected consultancy based in Preston, Lancashire. 

 

Following another successful year, we’re seeking an enthusiastic and committed Ecologist to join our friendly team. Our recognised ability to provide practical advice has secured a wide range of projects and an enviable list of clients. Projects range from preparation of Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) for large housing schemes to surveys to inform householder extensions. We have a varied portfolio of schemes where we have been able to make a real difference and influence the design and outcome of a scheme to achieve the protection of wildlife, habitats and sites, whilst satisfying our client’s requirements.  

 

Our Team: Our current team of five permanent Ecologists and seasonal sub-contractors work collaboratively to efficiently manage workloads and project diversity.  Training is a priority and staff members receive regular appraisals to help career goals to be achieved.  

 

Role: The successful candidate will be expected to work at a high level in terms of technical expertise and delivery of work to deadlines.  A comprehensive understanding of the UK wildlife regulatory system is essential.  The main role will be to carry out Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, protected species surveys (including nocturnal surveys for bat activity), map preparation (use of QGIS software), undertake desktop studies, report writing and preparation of information to support other team members.  

 

An Ecologist is also required to provide an on-site Ecological Clerk of Works role including the design and implementation of licensed mitigation for protected species.  

 

Qualifications, Skills & Experience Required:

  • Degree or post-graduate degree (or equivalent) in an ecology or related field
  • Field skills in botany and protected species survey
  • Minimum 2 years in practice experience
  • Membership of CIEEM or equivalent (or eligibility)
  • Project management and report writing
  • Experience of undertaking or managing Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) roles
  • Good understanding of wildlife legislation and the UK planning system
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Excellent communication, team working and time management skills

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of preparing successful mitigation licence applications
  • Licensed bat surveyor
  • CSCS card holder
  • Participation in local naturalist groups (e.g. local bat group)
  • Log book of experience gained towards registration under a protected species survey licence
  • Experience of BREEAM and biodiversity metrics
