We are looking for an enthusiastic person to inspire Orkney's communities and visitors to engage with the Orkney Native Wildlife Project.

The Orkney Native Wildlife Project aims to safeguard the internationally important native wildlife of Orkney now and into the future by addressing the threat it faces from an invasive non-native predator: the stoat.

Salary: 19,602 - 21,236 per annum
Hours: Full time
Contract: 5 years


You will be responsible for the component of the project which will involve giving regular talks about the project, producing a newsletter and ensuring project presence at Orkney's festivals and agricultural shows. You will also help showcase Orkney's native wildlife to people around the world to via live webcams.

You will assist in running community events, workshops and training events for volunteer stoat trapping and native wildlife monitoring along with helping recruit and manage volunteers. You will have a key role in supporting the eradication operation by helping to gain land access permissions through face-to-face engagement with landowners. In addition, you will be working with tourism providers to deliver training so that Orkney's native wildlife is better understood and promoted, and you will lead on creating a Tourism Strategy in conjunction with Destination Orkney.

You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills including being an excellent listener. You must be able to formulate clear and concise communications for a range of audiences and using a variety of channels. You must be able to manage multiple workstreams in a timely and efficient manner. You will have experience of working with local communities, ideally including farmers and landowners, in a collaborative and sensitive way.
