Working in some of the nation’s most stunning places and spaces, come rain or shine, your love of the outdoors will inspire others as you strive to ensure that landscapes are beautifully presented and continue to take our visitors’ breath away.

What it's like to work here

Ashridge is one of the most important National Trust properties in the Chilterns, a thriving countryside estate which includes SSSIs, SAC, ancient scheduled monuments, Grade II* listed parkland, tenant farms, and the largest area of in hand woodland in the Trust with hundreds of ancient and veteran trees and acres of wooded common. The estate is also renowned for its calcareous chalk downland and the rich diversity of species this habitat supports. We are looking for an enthusiastic countryside worker, who is willing to learn and is ready to hit the ground running alongside a small, dedicated and hardworking team of rangers.

What you'll be doing

You’ll be involved in all aspects of our outdoor work including chalk grassland management, scrub control, halo-thinning of veteran trees, thinning of plantations and restoring ancient woodlands. You'll also help to maintain the estate infrastructure and extensive rights of way network, while ensuring that visitors have a first rate experience at Ashridge. You'll participate fully in delivering our events programme including guided walks. This role will give you a valuable insight into working on a busy countryside property with a variety of challenges. You will be required to work weekends on a rota system.
