Youth Worker and Volunteer Leader

Your role will help prevent young people at risk from being excluded from school, to re-engage them with education and support them into the workplace/further education by inspiring them and building their self-belief using the natural environment at Fordhall Farm.

You will also engage local people with Fordhall’s story and natural landscape through engaging, inclusive and enjoyable volunteer work parties. Above all you will need to be passionate about helping young people fulfil their potential.

The role will work with primarily school-aged young people who do not thrive in an academic environment. By working with the same young people each week you will get to know them; you will gain their trust and you will work together to achieve practical tasks on the farm, whilst simultaneously building their confidence and self-belief. By working outdoors and on the land with these young people you will change the lives of these individuals for the better. You will empower young people and as a result open up new opportunities.

You will organise, lead and develop fortnightly outdoor volunteer opportunities at Fordhall, creating memorable experiences for all those involved, increasing the number of regular adult volunteers we receive and providing a safe and welcoming space for all participants.

Proven practical skills and a love for conservation are essential, with experience in practical activities in an outdoor environment using a wide range of hand tools. The activities that you complete and run will involve conservation work, green woodwork and general farm maintenance. Training on greenwood working is available.

Your days will be diverse and no two will ever be the same!
