What it's like to work here

Dunham Massey is a 3,000-acre estate situated approximately 10 miles south of central Manchester and three miles south of Altrincham. Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford, gave it to the National Trust in 1976 and today it attracts over 500,000 visitors a year. This elegant Georgian mansion, set within a magnificent 300 acre deer park and including one of Britain’s finest winter gardens, is a very popular visitor attraction with over 100 staff. The busy team has a strong commercial focus and a fast-paced environment. Within the park walls there is also a shop, café, restaurant and ice cream parlour. On the wider estate, there are 20 farms, 100 cottages, a golf course and an award winning housing development. The house, garden and parkland hide many layers of history and have many stories to tell.

What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for delivering practical activities to support the delivery of the GAP project in your local area, both on National Trust properties and in the wider community. You'll work with partners on projects that promote the value of conservation and the local environment through volunteering, informal training and vocational qualifications.

Working with National Trust staff and partners, you'll support, enable and encourage young people to play an active role in their local environment and community through training and skills development, and by providing inspiration and support.

Alongside practical experience and professional competence in conservation and countryside management, you will possess strong people skills and an ability to engage young people and local communities. You'll facilitate inspirational experiences of conservation work for young people; motivating them to care for their local environment; helping them to develop their skills and passion for the outdoors and the natural environment.

You'll be responsible for the day to day delivery of the practical elements of the GAP at National Trust properties and on land owned by others. You’ll make sure that, at every twist and turn of these fantastic landscapes, we’re delivering excellent conservation work. You’ll proudly represent the National Trust in the local community.
