Do you have a keen interest in woodland and tree maintenance? Would you prefer your office to be the great outdoors? Do you want to work in a beautiful location? If so, this could the role for you.

What it's like to work here

Wasdale is a remote farming hamlet surrounded by spectacular fells and dramatic wilderness. The fells have been an inspiration for mountaineers, climbers and poets for decades and remain a magnificent setting for an adventure to suit everyone. The options are almost endless, from a short scenic walk up some of the lower fells such as Middle Fell with its panoramic view of the Scafell massif to walking up Englandís highest mountain, Scafell Pike. A walk that helps visitors discover the quieter side of the Western fells is to Greendale; it has a hidden mountain tarn for a refreshing swim!

What you'll be doing

Working as part of a National Trust commercial forestry operations team, your role will cover all aspects of tree and woodland management. You will help deliver the annual forestry work programme as well as any unplanned work. You may supervise a small team of volunteers. You will work effectively alongside our tenants and partners in the local community in order to protect and enhance the Trustís assets and reputation.

In this role, you will be using chainsaws (training will be provided if you don't have any qualifications) on a day to day basis, working on trees ranging from 0.1 to 2 tonnes in weight, and working on steep slopes. The role requires the use of forestry machinery to extract timber. The terrain of Wasdale can often mean carrying heavy loads over long distances such as fencing materials, and therefore you will require a chainsaw qualification and a good level of fitness to fulfil the needs of the role. The role will also offer the opportunity for someone with current tree climbing qualifications or a desire to be trained in this role. Training and development will be given in the role when needed.
