Canal Environment Manager

Salary 30,000 plus pension and life insurance

Fixed term full-time contract for 18 months

We are looking to recruit an experienced project manager to oversee the development and planning of all of the biodiversity mitigation and enhancement work that will take place in the delivery phase of the Stroudwater Connected project. This large net gain project will see over 80 acres of Biodiversity Action Plan habitat created on land adjacent to the route of the restored canal which is currently managed as arable and pasture. The Canal Environment Manager will lead the preparation and implementation of Conservation Plan C: Canal and River Corridor, Wildlife and Biodiversity, which is one of three Conservation Plans to be prepared for this HLF project.

 

This role will involve commissioning and working with ecological consultants, hydrologists and engineers to complete baseline surveys and using these to inform the design of constructed wetlands and the reconnection of a river to its floodplain.

 

You will lead on engaging colleagues who are developing other strands of this HLF project including engineering, community engagement and heritage, to ensure that ecology and the environmental implications of their works are considered, their impacts limited, and the benefits of their work maximised.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

 

  • Proven experience of project management and co-ordination; including budget management of large projects and use of monitoring systems
  • Experience of partnership working with statutory and voluntary organisations
  • Wetland habitat and species management experience
  • Wetland survey and monitoring experience
  • Excellent communication, networking and team working skills
  • Proficient user of GIS software and Microsoft Office packages
  • Practical experience of managing and training volunteers
