This a rare opportunity to take a leading role in a beautiful part of the country and an area that is extremely important for wildlife and landscapes. You値l work as part of the Norfolk Coast and Broads management team and you値l deputise for the General Manager. You値l lead and inspire your ranger team, as well as our many staff and volunteers together with wider stakeholder and partner organisations, in how they can also play their part in restoring a beautiful, healthy and natural environment.


What it's like to work here


The places we care for in the Norfolk Coast and Broads includes some of the most biodiverse and beautiful coastal places. Blakeney National Nature Reserve comprising Blakeney Freshmarsh, Blakeney Point, Stiffkey and Morston Saltmarshes, Brancaster Beach and marsh, Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve, Burnham Overy Mill, Horsey Windpump and Heigham Holmes grazing marsh, together with other smaller properties, make this one of the most inspiring places to be a Countryside Manager for the Trust. All our properties are nationally and internationally designated for wildlife are also renowned for their historic significance.


The area is a popular tourism destination in the summer and hauntingly beautiful in the winter. Shingle beaches, coastal marshes, sand dunes, reedbeds, undeveloped harbours, home to rare and iconic wildlife, characterise the natural landscapes of the area.


Wild, expansive and often wind-swept, thousands of seal pups in their white coats, screeching terns and oystercatchers, smelly saltmarsh mud, shifting sands, hunting harriers, purple saltmarshes when sea lavender is in flower, reeds rustling, secret island in the Broads.


In this role you値l see and hear all these things and create lifelong memories.


What you'll be doing


Reporting to the General Manager, and as part of the Management team, you will play a strategic role in the future of the portfolio. Leading your countryside team you will set and deliver plans to protect and enhance the conservation of our properties which includes wildlife, landscapes, buildings and archaeology. You will be responsible for strategic planning and the operational day-to-day delivery of everything related to the countryside management on our properties. You will be part of an East of England delivery group working with key staff from other properties across the region and professional advisors from the our regional office to help shape and deliver our exciting nature conservation strategy to 2025. You will engage a wide variety of external stakeholders in delivering your work and you will enable a broad range of visitors to have outstanding and inspirational experiences through the quality of our welcome and the effectiveness of our conservation work.


Who we're looking for


  • Relevant nature conservation and working on the coast experience
  • Experienced in motivating and inspiring internal staff
  • Balancing conservation, access, presentation and visitor engagement experience
  • Experienced in delivering complex partnership working
  • Safety and compliance experience
  • Budget management and identifying new commercial income streams
  • Project management experience
