Community Tree Planting Manager (Two Days/Week in the first instance)

Salary: £25 000 pa (Pro-rata)


About us


BEAT is a Bradford based charity committed to improving the health and well-being of people in Bradford and the surrounding district through a range of projects. Forrest of Bradford is one of our projects with the aim of planting one million trees in the Bradford area. We have already planted over 750 000 trees and supported hundreds of volunteers. We are looking for a project manager to drive the next stage of this ambitious project.


The Role


The Community Tree Planting Manager will be primarily responsible for the implementation of BEAT Tree Planting contracts and sourcing new planting contracts and grants. The Community Planting Manager will coordinate with property owners, public agencies and charities to plan & implement community and any other planting projects. This position requires a background in applying for contracts and grants with strong organisational skills. Planting Managers work closely with community members, partner organisations, community groups, government departments or agencies and BEAT volunteers. This position will reports to the Board of Directors.


Planting Manager Duties and Responsibilities


  • Conducts community meetings for planting groups to explain planting process, property owner responsibilities, and maintenance schedule. Seek new planting contracts.
  • Communicates with all involved project members.
  • Approve tree locations.
  • Coordinates tree species selection, contractors, and material orders necessary to complete planting and maintenance projects.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to ensure the efficient cash flow.
  • Updates and maintains BEAT database with each planting site and tree planted.
  • Coordinates the volunteers to ensure adequate volunteer coverage on workdays.
  • Coordinates and supervises workdays including map preparation, ensures a safe work environment, and educates and supervises volunteers.
  • Conducts surveys on all trees planted, and performs necessary tree care including re-staking and sometimes replanting.
  • Completes Project Reports in a timely fashion, providing complete and accurate information on accounting and the project narrative.
  • Maintains and tracks materials and trees in inventory and provides accurate records as needed.


Other Duties


  • Use ICT to create and update maps, graphics, spreadsheets and other documents as needed.
  • Keep up-to-date with all correspondence.
  • Update database with property owner contact information, planted tree data and other data as needed.




Two days/week in the first instance with the opportunity to increase this as the projects develop.




  • A background in urban forestry Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • A valid driverís licence with clean driving record.
