Summary

 

We are looking for a suitably experienced, dedicated and enthusiastic person to join our team as an Assistant Farming Adviser. This is an exciting role where you can make a positive difference to some of our 30,000 hectares of land in our London & South East region. Your work will directly help to deliver our strategic objectives to restore a healthy, beautiful natural environment and as a programme role, is fixed term for two years.

 

You will be guided by our Farming and Wildlife Advisers to provide support and technical knowledge to our properties, driving higher standards of conservation-led land management. If you have a strong understanding of farming and land management, a commitment to a conservation led approach to land management and have an ability to work with a wide range of people to focus on delivery then we want to hear from you!

This post will be based out of our Chilterns Hub in High Wycombe or at our Wisley hub in Surrey, depending on your preference, and you値l have the opportunity to work on a fantastic range of places across South East England, ranging from the chalk hills of the Chilterns and South Downs, the rich coastal landscapes of the Isle of Wight and the South Coast to the splendour and magnificence of historic estates such as Stowe, and Petworth. Interviews will be on 30th April 2019.

 

What you'll be doing

 

Under the guidance of our Farming and Wildlife Advisers, you'll be providing consultancy advice and support to our properties and tenants, to achieve a high standard of sustainable land, soil and water management. You値l take forward our best opportunities to influence land management and ensure that our farms are managed in a way that is good for nature, the environment, and the tenant. You値l be working closely with your consultant colleagues to come up with the best outcomes for the Trust and our tenants, as part of our strategic Land Outdoors & Nature programme. You値l also help to ensure our property teams are compliant with National Trust and external regulations relating to food and farming.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join our strategic programme team, and to support our property staff to help drive exemplary conservation-led land management in our London & South East region.

 

Who we're looking for

 

To excel in this role you'll need to have/be:

  • A farm environment professional with a sound knowledge of land management, soil management, farming systems and farm business management, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience
  • A good understanding of external issues, legislation, policy, practice, instructions and guidance in relation to agriculture and the farm environment
  • Post qualification practical experience on farms, or able to demonstrate the equivalent knowledge
  • The ability to provide in depth land management guidance to achieve desired positive outcomes for nature, soils and water
  • Ability to build effective internal and external relationships with staff, volunteers, tenants and others with strong coaching, training, mentoring& facilitation skills.
  • Strong consultancy skills of listening, building trust and acting to deliver a high quality service
  • Good inter-personal skills, including a team-working ethic.
  • Ability to interpret and respond to external and internal research, intelligence and analysis
  • Project and /or programme management skills with an ability to both manage and engage with multiple projects
  • A full, clean, driving licence.
