Summary

The voice of our landscapes, conservation champions and lovers of all things outdoors, you’ll help to keep the British countryside and coast wonderful. Working in some of the nation’s most stunning places and spaces, come rain or shine, your love of the outdoors will inspire others as you strive to ensure that landscapes are beautifully presented and continue to take our visitors’ breath away.

What it's like to work here

National Trust looks after some of the most naturally spectacular and culturally rich stretches of coast in North Pembrokeshire, from Cardigan in the North to the sweeping landscapes of St David’s Head and the Marloes Peninsula. Steeped in history, the landscape here has been a cultural hot spot for thousands of years. This coastline includes some of the most extensive areas of maritime grassland and coastal heath in the UK. The cliffs support numerous rare plants and invertebrates and a high density of nesting chough and peregrine falcon. The area is nationally important for its grey seal breeding colonies, as well as having significant populations of guillemot, razorbill and fulmar.

The Trust owns over 3,000 ha in North Pembrokeshire and plays an active role in the conservation management of the area. We have our own herd of Welsh Black cattle and Welsh Mountain ponies that we use to graze the most important areas working closely with our tenant farmers, graziers and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.

What you'll be doing

We're looking for a Ranger with strong practical skills to complement our existing team of three Area Rangers. You'll play a key role in plans to deliver nature-rich, productive landscapes which are good for both wildlife and farming. You'll be working closely with the Area Rangers and will be the go-to person for practical tasks, which you’ll deliver as part of the agreed work programme. You’ll also supervise and work with full time volunteers, weekly volunteers and working holiday groups; teaching them new skills and helping them to perform at their best. Occasionally you'll also assist with the setting up and running of property events and help with surveying and monitoring of species and habitats on our sites.

You'll be part of a rota to provide evening and weekend Ranger cover for the countryside and holiday cottages in the property and to check livestock. The role will require some weekend, bank holiday and evening working.

With your endless passion for our work, you’ll help with the protection and care of habitats, wildlife, property and machinery, and your passion will inspire others to love this beautiful area as much as you do. We want you to engage with visitors, making time to talk to them, not rushing away to the next task. As an easily identifiable member of the Ranger team on your best day you'll be creating lasting memories for everyone.
