Job Title: Senior Wildlife Officer

Job Responsibilities:

A lot of my work involves partnership working with other bodies, such as charities, local authorities and the police to look at ways in which we can tackle wildlife issues and make the world a better place for wildlife. This can involve training the police or even assisting them in some investigations. I also work closely with other departments within the RSPCA to help them. For example, I will be called upon to help the press team with advice and background for their press work and take part in press interviews as and when required or help with any wildlife training of field staff. This is the RSPCA’s 200th anniversary year and we are keen to promote our For Every Kind campaign to make the world that is better for animals and is better for us all.

Travelling and attending partnership meetings with other bodies on how we can do more to help wildlife - such as with the police to prevent wildlife crimes. Also I liaise with other departments in the charity such as the press team to help provide them with my specialist knowledge but I also attend events to raise the profile of the charity outside and press conferences etc. Working with Animal rescue Volunteers and Wildlife Friend volunteers is a key part of the role.

The role presents challenges throughout year in attending meetings, planning and delivering training, working in partnership with other bodies however there can be seasonal campaigns such as the Great British Spring Clean in the Spring, Operation Seabird supporting initiatives to tackle marine disturbance which can peak in the summer, Operation Recall supporting initiatives to tackle dogs disturbing and attacking livestock and wildlife. Incidents reported to us can increase in the Spring and Summer due to longer days and more people outside

 

Qualifications needed:

Same as for an RSPCA inspector with details here

Mainly an experience working with animals and passion for animal welfare enhanced background check/ hold a full driving license/ have a good level of fitness,

Additional training: The RSPCA has its own inspector training programme and on-going training and development takes place regularly to update skills and techniques

Skills needed: Having an in-depth knowledge of wildlife, be passionate about animal welfare, be an all round good communicator and a very approachable manner.
