At Your Service

At your Service

CJS continues to evolve to meet changing demands, however, one thing that remains constant is that CJS is a Service, that word is not there by accident. When it was launched the aim of the Countryside Jobs Service was just that, to provide a service. Making job seeking easier for candidates and helping employers too, there was no charge for advertisers because we wanted the hard earned money from all those coffee mornings and sponsored whatevers to go into conserving something not advertising for staff. We still do that of course but as time’s gone on and both CJS and the sector have grown so has our Service. Jobs (and careers) are still at the heart of all we do but now it’s so much more than simply a job board. CJS encompasses news and information pertinent not only to the original readership of rangers but to everyone working across the whole conservation sector whether that’s practical boots on the ground (or in the trees) or the desk bound comms team and no matter if the focus is land or water based, specific to one animal or a whole ecosystem it all comes together in CJS. You don’t even need to be looking for work to find CJS the best source of information with the features and news providing an up to date resource of the latest developments and deep dives into some of the more unusual areas of working in the countryside giving readers an insight into things they perhaps never knew of or even thought about.

People like us, like us

Over the past 30+ years the Service aspect along with the “we’re here to help” ethos has helped us create a big network of people and organisations who work with and recommend CJS; from our original partnership with the rangers associations (CMA and SCRA) extending to National Biodiversity Network and CIEEM in recent years and connecting with organisations as varied as the Rural Services Network and Scottish Environment LINK. See all our endorsements (and testimonials too). If you see someone recommending us you can be sure it’s because they genuinely think CJS is the best place to help not because the recommendation or link has been bought either outright or in return for offers and discounts.

And it's mostly free!

Incredibly we still mostly work for free, in 2025 93% of everything we did and produced was without charge, following social enterprise aims has always been fundamental to the way CJS works, there’s more about our ethos here

Find details of all the things you can get totally free of charge, here.

Remember every time you pay for something with CJS (ads or subs) it all goes into helping build this big Service network for the countryside and all who work in and for nature conservation across the UK. We’ve been doing this for 31 years now and wonder how big it will be in another 31 years, but one thing we can promise you – the majority of it will still be free and we’ll be working hard to ensure we’re providing you with the biggest and best range of original information across the whole field.
