Launch of the Young, Green, and Well report - Parks for London

Parks for London's latest report brings together colleagues from the green space and public health realms

We launched our latest report, Young, Green, and Well, at the Mental Health Foundation’s new office on 19 October 2022, together with 36 colleagues from the green space and public health sectors, and many others who are actively working with young people.

There was a palpable buzz in the air during the event that started with welcome remarks from Mark Rowland, CEO of Mental Health Foundation, which had only just in 2021 placed nature as the theme of the Mental Health Awareness Week, held annually in May.

We were delighted to be joined by Joanne McCartney, Deputy Mayor for Children and Families. In line with the Mayor’s and the GLA’s investment in and work with young people aged 16-25 and in green infrastructure, “this report quite nicely brings those two things together,” Joanne remarked.

She also emphasised that the recommendations in the report are “really important to policy makers when devising how we go about improving our green spaces, but also to make them a welcoming space for young people.”

Hamida Diriye, our Young Persons Health Project Officer, then spoke about the research’s study methods and findings based on input from 169 young Londoners through an online survey, and 23 in small-group interviews.

You can view a summary of the key findings and top recommendations, along with a few highlights from the Q&A session in our post-event toolkit here
