We are partnering with Groundwork to set up a pan-London hub to support Londoners into the green sector
The Mayor of London has just launched the Mayor’s Academies Programme, a new skills programme offering free training courses to Londoners, especially those hardest hit by the pandemic, helping to get them into good jobs, whilst addressing the growing skills shortage in the capital.
The Programme will coordinate and improve the quality of training in the capital, focusing on priority industries key to London’s recovery and long-term economic growth, including the green sector, hospitality, creative, digital, health and social care. Key organisations will be funded to establish academy hubs for each priority sector to support the delivery of the programme.
We are delighted to announce that Parks for London and Groundwork will be the hub leads for the London Green Space Skills Hub. As part of the Mayor’s Green Skills Academy, it will deliver the commitments of the London Green Space Commission and develop a green skills programme. We aim to bring together all the parties involved in London’s green space improvements with a particular focus on sharing the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the landscape challenges of climate change adaptation and mitigation and attracting and supporting new entrants into this changing growing workforce.
In addition to more traditional parks and formal spaces, we will also focus on land on housing estates, verges, street space, green roofs and wherever informal spaces are and/or can be green. Increasing skills to help improve and create these spaces has the potential to transform the city, respond to the climate and ecological emergencies and provide healthy social spaces for Londoners.
