HighGround - an introduction
HighGround is a charity started by Anna Baker Cresswell in 2013 to help Service Leavers, Reservists and Veterans to find jobs, careers and vocational opportunities in the land-based sector – outdoor stuff for outdoor people.
We do this by providing advice, support, contacts and introductions for our HighGrounders with Rural Weeks at the core of our service.
A Rural Week is 5 fully residential days at an agricultural college in the UK (currently Bicton College in Devon) for 8 Service Leavers, Reservists and Veterans (HighGrounders), to give them an overview of the land-based sector, how their military skills and experience map so perfectly into it and what training and qualifications they will need once they have worked out what they want to do.
We also help our HighGrounders find precious work experience opportunities via our network of farms, estates, wildlife parks, vineyards and more.
How can readers help?
If you can offer an ex military person a work experience opportunity which would make him or her more employable at the end than when they started (minimum 3 weeks), we’d love to hear from you.
HighGround provides support throughout to both HighGrounder and provider – it needs to work for everyone!
As a charity, we receive no statutory income and rely entirely on grant-making trusts and public donation to fund our work.
If you know of any individual or company who would be interested in supporting HighGround, do please let us know so that we can continue to develop our service for Life beyond the military – Outdoors.
