In 2019 9% of all vacancies advertised in CJS were within the environmental education field and further 3% were classified as outdoor and adventure activity type roles. Unsurprisingly numbers were significantly lower in 2020 but still accounted for 6% across both groupings.
Job adverts and information about environmental education including forest school is of interest to 81% of our reader according to our 2020 readership survey which also revealed this is the main focus of the job search for 24% and 43% would like to see more environmental education posts advertised. When looking at outdoor and activity instructor type roles a similar picture is revealed with this area being of interest to 85%, forms the main focus of the jobs search for 11.5% and 20% would like to see more of these jobs advertised.
In 2020 the Environmental Education pages of the online jobs section received 7012 hits. Pages tagged education were viewed 15642 times and those tagged field studies 5582.

In our last survey in 2018 50% of advertisers who placed adverts for environmental education roles said that CJS adverts result in a better standard of applicant that outer sources.

In May 2020 we published CJS Focus on Environmental Education in association with the Countryside Education Trust including content from the National Association for Environmental Education (NAEE). Since then we've published features on environmental and outdoor education by organisation including: Adventure Smart, Open Country, Outdoor Recreation Northern Ireland and Youth Adventure Trust.
