Salary: £19,602 to £21,236 per annum pro rata

Basis: 26.25 hours per week – 3 year contract

Are you passionate about invertebrates and their conservation? Do you want to live and work in one of the most scenic and biodiverse areas of the UK and make a difference to the conservation needs of some of the country’s rarest insects? We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic project officer to run the Rare Invertebrates in the Cairngorms project, a new project based in the Cairngorms National Park.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day delivery of the project including;

  • Surveying for priority invertebrate species across the national park.
  • Recruiting, training and managing a team of volunteers to assist the project.
  • Engaging with landowners regarding the conservation management of rare species.
  • Raising awareness and enthusing those living within, and visiting the park on the amazing diversity of invertebrate life found within the Cairngorms.
  • Providing regular updates to the project steering group and writing quarterly reports to fulfil funding requirements.


This is a 3 year partnership project between RSPB Scotland, Cairngorms National Park, Buglife, Butterfly Conservation and Scottish Natural Heritage.


A full UK driving license is essential for this role.
