Assistant Ecological Records Officer

Salary: WY02, £13,336 - £14,882     Post Ref: WYJS: 094

37 hours per week. One year contract (extension subject to funding)

West Yorkshire Ecology is the local ecological records centre covering the five districts of West Yorkshire and is based in Wakefield.

We have an interesting new opportunity for an enthusiastic, hardworking individual. The post will involve sourcing and collating a range of ecological data held by partner organisations in order to enhance the “Ecological Record” and build a better picture of the distribution of wildlife habitats and species in the area.

Applicants should have experience or qualifications in an ecological or biodiversity related discipline and be computer literate in Microsoft Word and Excel. Good communication, analytical and organisational skills are essential.  A driving license and access to a car would be desirable.

This post may be available for part-time/job-share.

Post Title:  Temporary Biodiversity & Ecology Officer (Maternity Cover for One Year)

Post ID:  RCOT08                Salary:  Scp 26 – 31 = £21,412 to £25,320 (subject to pay award and job evaluation).  One year fixed term contract. Based at: Countryside Section’s Principal Office (currently County Hall, Cwmbran)

Hours:  37 hours per week

The post holder will provide expert biodiversity and ecological advice, and develop and support the biodiversity planning process to ensure that the County Council meets its statutory obligations in respect of conserving biodiversity, protected species, statutory designated sites and other nature conservation matters.

This post is to provide maternity cover for an established post within our busy landscape and countryside team.  You will help us continue to develop and implement our Local Biodiversity Action Plan, address the NERC duty, and provide expert advice on ecological and biodiversity matters.  The post will give you the opportunity to develop your skills based on your existing knowledge and gain a breadth of practical and policy experience.  Good general ecological knowledge, and an appropriate professional qualification are essential.
