Take a lead to improve access to the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside. Buckinghamshire County Council’s Rights of Way Service is highly valued by local people and visitors alike. As Strategic Access Team Leader you will be expected to drive forward ambitious and challenging targets, improving access for all to some of the most beautiful countryside in the South East of England. This is a senior post and one that will match your own ambitions to be innovative and ahead of the game, limits that are only determined by your own enthusiasm and expertise using your skills as an access expert, a skilled negotiator and someone who can speak authoritatively at all levels. You will be responsible for implementing the ambitious aims of the Council’s Rights of Way Improvement Plan, running our Local Access Forum and taking forward projects that enhance access to the countryside through the Rights of Way and Open Access network. You will also manage one of the most successful ‘Walking for Health’ schemes anywhere in the country. As a Team Leader, managing 3 other members of staff, you will also be part of the Rights of Way Management Team delivering a full rights of way and access service for the County. This is an extremely busy and challenging role, where you will be expected to initiate new access and develop the rights of way network by seizing opportunities wherever they arise - taking particular care to develop access for those with mobility problems – and identifying sources of funding. You must be a highly motivated individual with good organisational skills and the ability to remain focussed on a variety of tasks. It is a challenge that will ideally suit you if you are educated to degree level or equivalent, with significant experience of rights of way management or development and it is essential you have an understanding of the demands that the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 places upon us. You must also be computer literate, and if you have GIS and database skills, that will be a distinct advantage. Contract and project management and the ability to communicate with clarity and diplomacy will be other key qualities.
