We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a keen interest in biodiversity and conservation to provide general assistance to the North East Scotland Local Biodiversity Partnership. The successful candidate should possess relevant working experience and be educated to degree level (or equivalent vocational level) in environmental/biological science or related discipline. Equivalent relevant work experience may be considered in place of qualifications. Applicants will be highly organised and have knowledge and/or experience of biodiversity and nature conservation issues. In addition, candidates will require to demonstrate good IT and communication skills. The North East Scotland Biodiversity Partnership sets up conservation projects for priority habitats and species and raises awareness of biodiversity. The current priority project for the partnership is wetland restoration. The successful candidate will work with the partnership co-ordinator on a range of biodiversity projects within North East Scotland. Specific duties will include providing general administrative support, raising public awareness of biodiversity, fundraising and assisting with project work, including specific work on the North East Scotland Wetlands Restoration Project. The post holder will be employed by the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute in Aberdeen, an externally funded Fixed Term Appointment on behalf of the North East Scotland Biodiversity Partnership The post will be part-time, 22.5 hours per week for one year period initially (with possibility of extension subject to funding). Salary, depending upon qualifications and experience, will be £12,162 per annum. 15/6/09 – 7/7/09 - Sc North Harris Ranger Location: Tarbert, Isle of Harris Salary: £18-20,000. 3 year contract with the possibility of extension. The North Harris Trust is creating this new post to expand its land management capabilities and to enhance public appreciation and enjoyment of our unique landscape. Working to the Land Manager the post holder will have an excellent opportunity to develop the service from scratch. This is a varied and challenging post, and you will be working in some of the most spectacular and remote terrain in Scotland. Your main duties will include: welcoming visitors and introducing them to the area’s unique cultural and natural heritage; promoting responsible access and enjoyment of the countryside; working with schools, children’s groups and youth organisations; organising guided walks, public talks, exhibitions and events; developing and designing interpretation resources; managing volunteers; and protecting rare habitats and species. Enthusiasm, practical ability, flexibility and imagination are required to make a success of this post, along with the ability to both work alone and as part of a small team. Experience and confidence in working outdoors in remote environments is essential. Whilst previous experience as a ranger would be an advantage, applications are welcome from individuals with a love of the outdoor environment and who enjoy working with people of all ages and abilities.
