Apprentices will then have the opportunity to work in some of the most spectacular areas of Scotland during the course of their apprenticeship, learning practical and transferrable skills relevant to the conservation sector. A remuneration package of £12,500 per annum, training budget, travel budget and equipment budget are all awaiting the lucky candidates.
11/7/08 – 8/8/08 - Sc Bridging The Past: General Wade In Perthshire Project Officer Salary in the range £22,280 - 25,114 p.a. Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust is seeking to appoint a Project Officer for the three year "Bridging the Past: General Wade in Perthshire" project. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Bridging the Past project will conserve, enhance and promote the 18th century military roads and bridges of Wade and Caulfeild in Perth and Kinross, through a varied programme of conservation, interpretation, training and access projects. The Trust welcomes applications from candidates with a relevant degree (or equivalent experience) and a sound understanding of building conservation principles. Experience of managing conservation, interpretation/outreach or access projects and an interest in 18th century Scottish history is required. Familiarity with the Perth and Kinross area would be an advantage. The successful candidate will be based in Perth, though the post will involve travel to sites throughout Perth and Kinross. You will concentrate on a wide range of issues primarily in relation to tree preservation orders, forestry, biodiversity, countryside access and rights of way. Working in a team, you will be responsible for both statutory work and project implementation. You have a qualification in planning or a related discipline and are able to demonstrate knowledge of environment issues; experience of partnership working and working with communities is desirable. IT skills and knowledge of GIS systems are also advantageous. We are an independent provider of Tree and Vegetation management consultancy to Utilities, Rail Companies, Developers and Local Government. We are seeking new staff on a short term, and sub contract, basis to carry out Tree Risk Surveys across the UK. The type of work you can expect to be involved in will be varied and challenging, calling upon your professional arboricultural knowledge. Key skills and responsibilities: You will be competent in carrying out Visual Tree Assessments (VTA), have good tree identification skills, be able to diagnose injury, disease and decay, and structural defects. You will be trained and/or experienced in arboriculture, with a recognised arboricultural qualification, such as National Diploma level or equivalent. It would be desirable if you also possessed the Lantra Professional Tree Inspection certificate. You will be expected to travel and complete surveys in a variety of different environments, and will need to be physically fit, and possibly undertake a drugs and alcohol test as well as a medical. You must be able to communicate well with the public, and have the ability to work to deadlines and targets. You should also be proficient with the use of the MS Office applications, and have experience with data bases, specialist software packages, and ideally GPS. You must have a personal, or laptop, computer and access to the internet and an email account suitable for transferring data. You must hold a current Full UK driving license, and have access to a vehicle for business use.
