Groundwork Pennine Lancashire delivers education and training programmes within local schools and communities across East Lancashire. We are looking for a confident individual who is passionate about the environment and has the ability to motivate and inspire young people to get back onto the ladder of learning and employment. Based at our outdoor education centre in Rossendale the role is to develop and deliver environmental and land-based training plus taster sessions. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate practical experience of working in the environment/countryside or horticulture. Delivery of the Level 1 Certificate in Sustainable Development is a key part of this role as is developing new environmentally based learning programmes. You will benefit from working within a dedicated supportive team delivering a range of exciting projects within schools and other community and youth groups. Appropriate training will be offered for the role. You will be responsible for investigating Public Rights of Way Offences, applying enforcement powers where necessary as well as a wide range of policies and procedures within a legal framework. You will be supporting a small team of area network officers in fulfilling the county councils legal obligations to maintain and improve the Public Rights of Way Network. You will have the ability to deal with a wide range of people and have experience of preparing cases for legal proceedings as well as appearing as a witness at court. You will require excellent negotiating skills along with a general working knowledge of countryside management. You will have the opportunity to become involved in all aspects of the Countryside Service as needs arise. Our strength lies in the ability to provide our clients with an unparalleled range of objective, science-based information, advice and implementation services across the environment sector. We are an independent provider of Tree and Vegetation management consultancy to Utilities, Rail Companies, Developers and Local Government. We are seeking new staff on a short term, and sub contract, basis to carry out Tree Risk Surveys across the UK. The type of work you can expect to be involved in will be varied and challenging, calling upon your professional arboricultural knowledge. Key skills and responsibilities: You will be competent in carrying out Visual Tree Assessments (VTA), have good tree identification skills, be able to diagnose injury, disease and decay, and structural defects. You will be trained and/or experienced in arboriculture, with a recognised arboricultural qualification, such as National Diploma level or equivalent. It would be desirable if you also possessed the Lantra Professional Tree Inspection certificate. You will be expected to travel and complete surveys in a variety of different environments, and will need to be physically fit, and possibly undertake a drugs and alcohol test as well as a medical. You must be able to communicate well with the public, and have the ability to work to deadlines and targets. You should also be proficient with the use of the MS Office applications, and have experience with data bases, specialist software packages, and ideally GPS. You must have a personal, or laptop, computer and access to the internet and an email account suitable for transferring data. You must hold a current Full UK driving license, and have access to a vehicle for business use.
