We need an enthusiastic officer, based at our new prestigious nature reserve in Preston, to work alongside the Reserve Manager. You will be responsible for supporting the Reserve Manager to assist with all aspects of the conservation management of Brockholes Wetland and Woodland Nature reserve. To develop and maintain volunteer and community involvement with the site at all levels. You will need a dynamic, ‘can do’ attitude, an awareness of the natural world and the ability to motivate other people. BASC is seeking to fill the post of Game and Gamekeeping Officer who will: • Provide an informed and specialist point of contact for public bodies and relevant stakeholders, BASC members, gamekeepers, and game shooters, the wider shooting and rural communities and BASC staff • Develop, promote and facilitate the delivery of defined services to members who are gamekeepers or shoot managers • Contribute to the formulation of policy on gamekeeping, game shooting and game management issues The successful candidate will have: - • Personal experience of gamekeeping and game shooting and the ability to show empathy within that community • Expertise in current gamekeeping and game shooting issues • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with a flair for problem solving •An ability to develop working partnerships with others • Experience of working as part of a team as well as independently • Experience of speaking in public would be a distinct advantage • An appropriate degree or equivalent would be an advantage The job is based at the BASC Head Office near Chester but will involve travel throughout the UK. With the ecology season shortly to commence, we are seeking individuals to join the team for around six months to support the existing team on ecology projects based all over the UK. Ideally you will need to be based in Banbury, but we would consider candidates working in our other UK offices. All candidates need to be prepared for large amounts of travelling and be happy to work away from home. Due to the nature of the work, successful candidates will need to be completely flexible on working hours, as there will be a significant amount of evening, weekend and night work. Suitable candidates ideally need a BSc in Ecology or related subject, but knowledge of ecology would override the specific need for a higher qualification.
