There is a particular emphasis on protected species, including bats and great crested newts. Licences for relevant protected species are a distinct advantage. With a passion for protecting special places, you will play a key role in the conservation of the natural environment at Calke Abbey, a country house, park and garden where time has stood still. Leading day-to-day estate restoration works and guided tours, you will be inspired by the landscape around you and have practical experience of countryside management. You will also assist as necessary with the feeding, heatlh, welfare and protection of the in-hand livestock. Based in the heart of the historical town of Shrewsbury the post will be involve planning and co-ordination of practical management work to a high standard on the Trust’s north Shropshire nature reserves which include a range of habitats. The successful applicant will be self motivated and able to manage their own time effectively. They will be able to deal with the public and motivate our volunteers to ensure that the Trusts reserves are maintained in good condition. An ability to administer existing grant scheme commitments and prepare new funding applications is also required as is dealing with contractors and managing small habitat creation projects. Flexibility to work outside normal office hours and a full driving licence are a prerequisite of this post.
