We always knew we were 'The Original' and believed that we were 'The Biggest and Best' and it seems you agree with us.  So thank you for all your lovely comments, here are just a few from our readers and advertisers.

Advertisers:

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is a long term client of CJS and we have always received prompt, clear and efficient service from them when looking after our advertising requirements.  In busy periods, this has often been at short notice and they have always gone “that extra mile” for us which, when the client is under pressure, is always really appreciated.  On a professional note, we have always received good response rates and quality candidates from advertising via CJS and it is well recognized as one of the best places to attract candidates or volunteers for environmental and/or conservation roles.  Great people and great customer service.

Carole Torrie, Administration and Personnel Manager, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust

We use CJS and one other specialist website to advertise for our Ranger and Assistant Ranger posts and, although both yield good results, our figures consistently show that, where the relevant information is given by the applicants, the highest number appear to come to us via CJS.  On the two most recent occasions, it was also noticed that eleven out of the total of twelve shortlisted candidates stated that they had seen the advert on CJS.  Interestingly, among those who are not shortlisted, there was a rate of 48% unknowns (Asst Ranger) and 26% unknowns (Ranger) whereas all those shortlisted had completed the marketing section at the end of their form.

I have been in Countryside Conservation for nearly 20 years and have worked with many enthusiastic dedicated people, all with a passion and determination to manage and conserve our beautiful countryside and heritage. The Countryside Jobs Service puts these people in touch with opportunities. These opportunities are vital if we want our countryside and heritage to continue into the future. This service is absolutely superb and I would strongly recommend it to anyone interested in getting into the industry.

Ian Pease, Hatfield Forest, The National Trust

Since discovering the CJS website we have not advertised for staff anywhere else other than on our own website. In the past two years we have filled a number of permanent and temporary positions having received good quality applications from suitably qualified candidates. We would only feel the need to place job adverts elsewhere if the number of such applications were to drop significantly.

Cris Anglish, For and on behalf of Penny Anderson Associates Ltd

Very quick and easy to advertise.  Your professional service means no hassle for me and excellent value too.

Mary Wallace, HR Officer, Northumberland National Park Authority.

Thanks very much for your usual no-hassle service.

Hester Clack, HR Officer, The Broads Authority

Thank you so much for all your help.  If only everything I had to do went as pleasantly and easily as this I would be a happy girl indeed!

Joan Mudd, HR Manager, York Museums Trust

The level of service I receive from CJS can only be described as excellent. Advice and guidance on placing of adverts is always given promptly and any queries are quickly rectified. The whole process is made easy due to the staff being very approachable, even when faced with late requests and tight deadlines, they remain helpful and professional.

Michelle Unek, HR Manager, South Downs Joint Committee

Thanks for your prompt attention and I would like to pass to all what a great service to our industry the CJS is - well done to all concerned and thanks for great customer service.

Sarah Mason, Community Development Manager, Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust

Sea.fari adventures only use Countryside-Jobs.com to advertise for wildlife tour guides.  It has never failed to attract excellent candidates even mid-season and at short notice.  This year once again produced quality applications.

Tony Hill, Sea.fari Adventures.

It was quite by chance that CJS were the first people I contacted when searching for a Permaculture Worker.   I had to go no further.   Placing the advertisement was very simple and the response was outstanding.    All the candidates were remarkably good and decent which leads me to believe that this kind of work brings out the very best of human nature.  My thanks to CJS.

Jo Orchard-Lisle

We have had a fantastic response to the ad but would now be grateful if you could remove from your site.

We will definitely use you again.

Regards, Phyllis Brown, Brechin Castle Centre

CJS is the environment sector’s first port of call for jobs - as applicant and advertiser I have used CJS for over 10 years and it is still the best! I would always consider the CJS at the top of my list for placing jobs. As an advertiser we found it good value for money, very swift and good service with real people on the end of the email/phone! We had excellent applicants, in terms of skills and experience, who came through the CJS and could not be more pleased with the successful applicant (who also came through CJS).

Helen Batt, RSC Manager, River Stewardship Company

A brilliant, comprehensive and well organised service. We always get our best applicants from the CJS which works brilliantly for both the employer and the employee.

Patrick Vincent, Director, Green Mantle Ltd

Volunteers:

We've always had a great calibre of candidates via CJS, who have been very supportive in our advertising for a range of both paid and voluntary roles for the RSPB.  We've had a record response for our Intern scheme this year (2010) - 22 enquiries in less than 24 hours, you can't beat that!

Emma Droy, RSPB

Training:

CJS has been a fantastic route for us to promote the Lantra Women and Work programme, they really understand their industry.  Working with them has generated a huge response from good quality sources over the previous two years.  We always receive a professional service from the team and the advertising rates are competitive.  It is a pleasure to recommend CJS and we are confident that you will not be disappointed by using them for your marketing campaigns.

Claire Layton, Angela Kimberly Training

Happy Subscribers:

The Countryside Jobs Service  aggregates an impressive range of information on jobs, training opportunities and news relating to countryside management and conservation.  With flexible and convenient options for delivery, the CJS is a very valuable addition to our Careers and Employability Service.

Jo Davies, Swansea University

I will be more than happy to add your link to our website, I personally have gained a few jobs, including this one, through subscribing to CJS, I think you provide an excellent service.

Will, Keeper at the Monkey Sanctuary Trust.

I would recommend your service to anyone looking for rural land based job and would use you in the future if necessary.

Superb - you do a great job. I got a job through you years ago, and another now! Thanks so much.

Thanks, your ad got me this job :)

I just wanted to thank you for the efficient and quick way you have restored your service (after the website debacle, July 2007).  I'm sure you must have been tearing your hair out over the last few days but it has seemed very fuss-free from this end of the computer! If only other things got sorted out so quickly (electricity bills, insurance things). It highlights the professional service you provide - keeping us informed of issues, and providing an alternative jobs page while the problems were sorted out. It just shows good customer service is not dead - it's working in Goathland!

Thank you to everyone who has sent us adverts, subscribed to CJS Weekly, read CJS online, sent suggests for new sections, it really is you who make CJS what it is.  Without you it's just words on screen, you make it become a reality.

Now we've really got something to live up to!

July 2009: Happy 15th Birthday CJS!

Where would we be without the CJS?

The tireless dedication and support the CJS staff help make CJS what it is today. There are many other environmental job supplements, publications or websites out there … but what makes CJS so different – and, so much better than the rest? The team that run the CJS are passionate about the environment and this, and their ever friendly nature by email and 'phone which almost makes you feel like you are talking to a well loved friend mean that they have an understanding of the needs of their readers. The simple nature of the CJS – dispensing of flashy websites, glossy and expensive paper publications, and sticking with the tried and tested, easily accessible format give CJS the edge over many (if not all!) their competitors. Then there is the fact that the CJS team give back – either by sponsoring CJ the Snail, or by its generous and ongoing commitment to support the environment by supporting the Scottish Countryside Rangers' Association – support that has been vital to the work the association does in Scotland.

Whether looking for jobs, or wanting to simply keep in touch with the market and news, CJS's arrival on a Friday (or Monday) is a welcome sight.

Well done on an excellent first 15 years and here's to looking forward to another 15 (and more!) of looking forward to 3pm (or thereabouts!) on a Friday afternoon, for a cup of coffee and a read!

Happy Birthday CJS from the Scottish Countryside Rangers' Association (SCRA)!

Back in the 80s and early 90s Niall and Anthea Carson started a business called Rent-a-Ranger. This evolved to become the Countryside Jobs Service (CJS), now in the capable hands of The CJS Team. The Countryside Management Association has for a very long time now worked alongside CJS to the benefit of both organisations. Indeed CMA officially endorses CJS, something that does not happen that often. Our websites are 'mutually linked' as a sign of recognising that each organisation provides a valued service to the profession.

CMA acknowledges the key role that CJS has played in developing the careers and skills of those in the countryside management field and hopes that we will continue to work together for many years to come.

It's extraordinary to think that CJS is fifteen years old. I'm just about old enough to say that when I got my first job CJS hadn't been invented - but I certainly owe at least two jobs in my career to CJS and there are a great many others who'd say the same. What's more, as time goes on I've found myself on the other side of the table - these days I'm more often interviewing for staff, and I know that when I do, a lot of the best candidates come to me via CJS. I've lost count of how many people I've appointed who've answered my adverts in CJS. Yes, those same adverts that are free for employers. That everyone reads. Is it any wonder CJS has become the only serious place for countryside jobs? Certainly, there are bigger services, and websites with funkier names that come and go: but at the end of the day if you actually want to get a job in the countryside and environment field, you're going to have to read the one that matters: CJS. It's been dishing out the best stuff for fifteen years - and it looks as though it's going to keep on for a long while yet!

Matthew Chatfield, editor Naturenet.net

Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust would like to congratulate CJS on reaching their 15th anniversary, wish them much success for many years to come and thank them for their support in helping to save species from extinction.

Attracting employees with a passion for the countryside is a high priority for the RSPB, and Countryside Jobs Service really helps us get to those people. It's an invaluable service for us, profiling the RSPB to a huge number of high-quality potential applicants. Congratulations on 15 years of promoting the best jobs on offer to the best people available!"

RSPB

CJS is always our 'first stop' whenever we place adverts for countryside jobs in Scotland. We are delighted to say applications we receive through the site means we get people with the right skills, knowledge and the desire to work in the world of nature conservation.

Thank you CJS. Through you excellent targeted circulation you help us match the right person for the right job - and that means we meet our mission!

Cheers, Catherine Douglas, HR Manager, Scottish Wildlife Trust

Congratulations from The Tree Council on your 15th birthday.

We were very pleased to be involved in an earlier milestone - the first-ever CJS Special Edition in November 2004, which took trees and hedges as its theme and was published in association with The Tree Council's National Tree Week. Many happy returns.

On behalf of hundreds of RSPB volunteers, past and present, and many of our staff, thank you for providing THE recruitment paper for those looking for opportunities in the field of conservation. Your free volunteer ads are a boon, and paid adverts with you always produce incredibly high quality applicants.  Keep up the good work, and here's to the next 15 years!

Kate Tycer, Volunteering Development Officer, RSPB

Many thanks CJS for all your years of service to the world of environmental conservation.  Your high quality promotions have certainly helped many up and coming conservation professionals to find their way to  our training centre in rural Wales and we deeply appreciate your efforts.   Keep up the good work and here's to the next 15 years!  Malcolm Magee,  Denmark Farm Conservation Centre, Lampeter.

For 15 years CJS has provided an invaluable service to the countryside sector, promoting jobs and training and ensuring high standards within the industry.    Happy Birthday and here's to the next 15 years!, Losehill Hall
