CJS Special Edition, Monthly and Weekly publications.

It's been a busy old week, with a monster CJS Monthly on Tuesday, 11 pages long making it one of the largest for quite a while. This was the first time we used the new mailing system and sent a large proportion electronically but it seems to have worked quite well.

Then we've been working on putting together the latest quarterly Special Edition which this time features volunteer work and again it's the largest we've produced at 23 pages long. And last but not least today is CJS Weekly deadline and guess what? Yes, that right it's another huge one at 16 pages long plus a further three for the March training calendar. This week's edition contains 114 new paid posts of which 71 (that's 2/3rds) came direct to CJS. It's going to a mighty thump when this little lot lands on your doormat on Monday morning!

A bumper edition.

This week's edition contains the 2007 Special Edition supplement featuring Trees and Hedges, as before it's in association with the Tree Council. This year we've focused on Wood Fuel and Urban Trees with articles from The Woodland Trust, CVNI and Trees for Cities. There are loads of adverts and a whole heap of training courses. To see the special click here.

You'll also find the first monthly Training Calendar in this week's edition. This includes, in chronological order, brief details of courses and events being held during the next calendar month and an update on new online listings for longer courses and providers. The online training section has also had a bit of a revamp. Courses are now detailed according to type, so if you're looking to brush up your identification skills you no longer need to wade through courses on how to make biodiesel. Log onto: http://www.countryside-jobs.com/index/training.htm to find out more.

This week's edition is 11 pages of jobs, 2 of training plus a further 11 of Special Edition – wow! There are 83 new paid posts of which 41 were sent direct to CJS.

A normal week – well that's strange!

No extraordinary events, no newsworthy news – how boring!

What we do have for you is our latest Special Edition Supplement, the first to focus on training, officially published on Monday but already live, click here: http://www.countryside-jobs.com/Special_Editions/Current.htm

CJS Weekly is also printing, at just eight sides (54 job ads, 18 direct to CJS) it's a very small one this week ahead of next week's Bank Holiday. We think the last time it was this short was just before Christmas last year – ah well, that's Bank Holidays for you. Talking of holidays, just to warn you, the CJS Office will be closed on Wednesday (22/8) as it's our local agricultural show. With all the problems arising from the FMD outbreak in the south we are even more determined to support the show.

The lull before the storm?

After a busy few days (perhaps that should be weeks) it's finally beginning to slow down and we've had time to think. We're using the lull to catch up on a few things and to start planning a few new features.

Yesterday we published the first Special Edition of 2007, it features Seasonal and Volunteer work and is packed full of useful information and loads of adverts. So have a read.

The outlook on the owl box is not looking good, the proposed tree is too straight which means the box would be vertical and the branches are all at nearly 90
º to the trunk so on these limbs it would be horizontal not at all want a homeless Tawny want. Our next plan of campaign is to try work out a way to fix the box at an angle, with perhaps a wedge between the back of the box and the trunk.

The weather has been balmy, once again you could almost believe it's spring – but last time we said that it snowed for a week. On one of the intake fields a large flock of lapwing has been seen wheeling in the wind and crying out across the moor fringes, but so far no curlew, once they arrive we know the seasons really have turned the corner.

We're off to eat pancakes now - don't forget the lemon juice!
