Latest: Hooray a deal has been reached - for now!

It has been announced that the latest round of strikes have been called off and that a temporary agreement has been reached meaning that there will be no more strikes this year.

However, there will be a backlog to clear so this week's edition maybe delayed.

CJS will endeavour to ensure that your copies are sent as usual and reach you in good time.  However, during any strike action your paper copies of CJS will inevitably be delayed and even when workers do return to work due to the inevitable backlog copies will be further delayed.

To ensure you don't miss your CJS there are a few options available:

You can transfer to web access to avoid this problem completely.

If you find your copy has not arrived you can contact CJS by email (preferably) or by phone to request the current temporary online access details.  The temporary details change each week so you will need to contact us each week a strike occurs.

Although we would prefer that you accessed copies from the website; for the duration of any strike we can send PDF copies by email.

Or you can put your subscription on hold until the strikes are over.

Please remember that this will also affect CJS's incoming post.  If your subs are due for renewal we would recommend that you use the webshop or phone to pay by card.

Service Summary for all customers - Friday 6th November

Cancellation of national industrial action by the Communication Workers Union (CWU)

The CWU has announced the national strikes planned for Friday 6th and Monday 9th November have been cancelled. This means that mail services will now operate normally on both days across the country.

We're really sorry for the inconvenience we know disruption to mail has caused and we are now concentrating on getting services back to normal, in areas recently affected by industrial action.

We will continue to keep customers informed and up to date on all developments via these web pages. Further updates will be given later today, Friday 6th.

News from Communications Workers Union (the postal workers union)

Deal Means Postal Strikes Off

5th November 2009

The CWU has today announced that the postal strikes planned for Friday 6th November and Monday 9th November have been called off.
CWU and Royal Mail have reached an interim agreement that was unanimously agreed by the union's Postal Executive today.
The interim agreement will provide a period of calm for the CWU and Royal Mail to reach a full and final agreement. The interim agreement guarantees that modernisation will be introduced with agreed job security and improved terms and conditions for postal workers. It also addresses all the issues included in the long running local disputes.
The strike ballot remains in place.
Dave Ward, CWU deputy general secretary, said: "There needs to be exceptional efforts to improve trust and relationships between CWU and Royal Mail. As a result both TUC and ACAS will have a continuing role to keep the discussions and agreement on track."

The details of the agreement are embargoed until 12noon Friday 6th November 2009.
